Hi fucking DOVE aka the unabashed minds behind the new anti-confidence campaign, which portraits women in a way that celebrates the notion of not being able to appreciate themselves without the affirmation of others. We just survived your first big (s)hit-video, and now you throw out yet another self-directed piece of pseudo-journalistic nonsense. Just came across it through the promoted post you bought on FB, so I see your dung even if I don´t want to. You state you want to help women across the UK feeling great about their bodies. How about - instead of spreading a grey image of women with an almost smelling sense of self-pity, who lack the slightest spark of pride or feeling of self-worth - showcasing female role models who already do feel great about themselves? Inspiration via a strong and self-confident beauty of variety would have been more revolutionary than keeping up this boring promotion of “the weak gender”: quarries of the one-dimensional glossy type of medialized photoshop-perfection, which women can never achieve in their everyday life. That´s so yesterday. At the moment the dilemma is not that women do not know whether they are beautiful. They know they are. Your campaign is a farce to those who are not trapped in a media-brainwashed state of mind anymore. In order to find validation for your current self-righteous and irresponsible mediation of the image of women, you might just hold up all the women who support you. Women who support your big pity show only reveal that they are still caught in the trap of giving way too much shit about the artificial “hyper-depiction” of themselves, created by the commercial sector of the beauty and fashion industry which you are part of. What´s your excuse for not stimulating their inner strength by inspiring them to see their very own beauty within themselves - independently? Your inspiration starts and ends with profane compliments women give to each other (about body parts!), because you insinuate that they have absolutely no existent positive feeling about themselves at all. Of course they need to hear it from someone else first. In your very own creation of “contemporary beauty-authenticity” you tell those most probably even casted protagonist-preys: “I love your legs”, “I really like your butt” and so on… Because still, it´s the surface that counts!

Purporting the empowerment of a socio-cultural movement to revolutionize the perception of beauty, you target a nonreflective minority of victims to sell your stuff. It´s EMETIC.

Marina and Ulay: Death Self, 1977

“This performance consisted of the two artists seated in front of each other, connected at the mouth. They took in each other’s breaths until all of their available oxygen had been used up. The performance lasted only 17 minutes, resulting in both artists collapsing unconscious to the floor, having filled their lungs with carbon dioxide. This personal piece explored the idea of an individual’s ability to absorb the life of another person, exchanging and destroying it.”
